Attorney Jones arrested at public meeting

Ojai attorney Cathy Elliot Jones was removed from the downtown Candidates Forum Monday night and taken to the Ojai Police Station. After medical examination at VCMC, she was cited on a misdemeanor charge and released. Was Capt. Bruce Norris right to remove her from the auditorium for her allegedly interrupting the proceedings?

Jones definitely interrupted the proceedings and put Capt. Bruce Norris and moderator Scott Eicher (not to mention the candidates) in a difficult position. She was removed by force for her verbal aggressiveness. Outside, additional officers were called, and she was physically restrained, handcuffed and carted away. I personally would have appreciated additional efforts to solve the problem without force, because Jones was not a physical threat.

We're all old enough to know what happens when a cop tells you to do something and you don't do it. It doesn't matter whether or not we agree with the consequences -- we still know what they are likely to be.

Cathy Jones is a lawyer, and she knew exactly what was going to happen.

As for her assertion that she had no idea who the unidentified stranger in the suit was who tried to drag her out of the meeting, I just watched the video on Channel 10 and Jones can clearly be heard to recognize Captain Norris when he approached and addressed her. At the meeting I clearly heard her taunt Norris and ask him to go ahead and place her under arrest.

And, yes -- I do believe that Cathy Jones should have been arrested, if only because it's what she so evidently wanted.

Cathy Elliot Jones should have been "tassed" AND pepper sprayed! ^o^

But seriously...

She totally self-created the situation and could have choosen to registered her concerns quietly, with decorum. If she had, ironically enough, she would have realized that her ACTUAL question had yet to be asked! She just presumed that the question being asked at the time was hers.

She deserves whatever she gets.
